Capiz National High School: A Place Where Excellence Meets Character
During my one-month teaching internship in Roxas City as part of the SEA-Teacher Program 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to be placed at Capiz National High School (CNHS)—a historic and prestigious public secondary school that plays a vital role in shaping the future of Filipino youth.
Located at Washington Street, Roxas City, Capiz National High School stands as one of the oldest and most respected educational institutions in the region. Established in 1902 during the American colonial period, CNHS has grown into a large-scale school with a diverse student population, reflecting both tradition and innovation in Philippine education.
What impressed me most was the school’s organizational structure, which is well-managed and comprehensive. The school is led by a highly competent principal, assisted by department heads across various subject areas such as English, Science, Math, Filipino, Social Studies, and MAPEH. Each department is committed to delivering quality education through updated teaching strategies and a learner-centered approach.
The campus itself is vibrant and inspiring. It features multiple academic buildings, spacious classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms, and a library that supports student research and creativity. There are also open spaces like the school quadrangle and sports areas that foster physical development and social interaction.
CNHS offers a comprehensive curriculum based on the K–12 Basic Education Program. It includes a Junior High School program (Grades 7–10) and a Senior High School program (Grades 11–12) with academic tracks such as HUMSS, STEM, and TVL. This enables students to explore their interests and prepare for higher education or employment.
Another thing I admired was the discipline and character demonstrated by the students. They are polite, enthusiastic, and respectful—values that are clearly nurtured by the school environment. The teachers are equally admirable: dedicated, professional, and always supportive of both local and international interns.
Capiz National High School is more than just a school—it is a community of learning and growth. Its mission to develop academically competent and morally upright individuals is visible in every corner of the school and in every member of its academic family.
Being part of CNHS, even just for a short while, was an honor I will never forget. I am grateful for the warm welcome and the unforgettable experience of teaching and learning within its walls.
